Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has taken a significant step towards improving the state's infrastructure
by approving the reconstruction of the long-abandoned Omenuko Bridge at Ozuabam in the Arochukwu Local Government Area. This bridge is a critical link between Abia North and Abia Central Senatorial Zones, but its dilapidated state has posed a severe safety risk to commuters for decades.
The bridge's narrow design allows only one vehicle to pass at a time, and during rainy seasons, floodwaters often submerge it, making the situation even more hazardous. Sadly, the bridge has claimed multiple lives, including students traveling for JAMB examinations. However, with Governor Otti's approval, the bridge will finally be reconstructed, bringing relief to the people of Abia State.
The state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, announced that the project's flag-off would be announced soon and emphasized the benefits of repairing the bridge. Additionally, the state government has sent the Abia State Electricity Bill to the state House of Assembly for consideration, with a public hearing scheduled for December 18, 2024. This bill aims to provide independent electric power to the state, and all stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the public hearing to contribute to the enactment of the bill .
