The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched a crackdown on vehicles with tinted windows and covered number plates in the FCT. This move is aimed at curbing rising criminal activities such as kidnapping .

According to the command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, vehicle owners in the FCT are warned to remove any tinted glass from their vehicles or risk having their cars impounded. The use of tinted glasses on vehicles is currently prohibited in the FCT .

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, emphasized that many kidnapped victims had cited the use of tinted windows as a factor that made it difficult for people to identify them as being in distress. Disu also noted that criminals often take advantage of vehicles with covered number plates to carry out their operations without being traced .

In response to the directive, no fewer than 296 vehicles have been impounded in the FCT for violating the ban on vehicles without number plates and the use of tinted glasses .
