A fatal accident occurred on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge on Monday morning

, involving a J5 Ford bus and a Mercedes truck. The collision resulted in one fatality and four injuries, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. LASTMA officials, led by General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki, quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations.

Preliminary findings suggest that the J5 Ford bus suffered brake failure while traveling at high speeds, leading to the collision with the Mercedes truck. The bus was carrying pepper and other perishable goods, and one person trapped inside unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The survivors were taken to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical care.

The accident caused a significant traffic gridlock, extending from the accident site to the Unilag shoreline on the Third Mainland Bridge. However, LASTMA's rescue crew was able to clear the scene, remove the vehicles, and clean up the spilled goods, enabling traffic to flow again. The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his condolences to the deceased's family and emphasized the importance of road safety, especially during the holiday season .
