The Abia State Government has kicked off community engagements to discuss the proposed Abia airport project

with the people of Nsulu clan in the Isialangwa North Local Government Area. This move is aimed at explaining the government's intentions and addressing any concerns the community may have ¹.

According to Calab Ajagba, Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti, the government has already secured the consent of village heads and stakeholders from the host communities. Ajagba revealed that the government is currently conducting site surveys and will identify and compensate the rightful owners of the land before commencing work on the project.

The community engagement is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that the project is implemented smoothly and with the support of the local community. Ajagba emphasized the economic benefits of the project, including employment opportunities, road constructions, and improved amenities ².

Traditional rulers from the Nsulu clan, including Eze Christopher Ebere and Eze Patrick Anaba, expressed their support for the project, stating that they and their children living overseas are aware of the importance of having an airport in their area ³.

However, some representatives from the host communities pointed out that their main challenge is the lack of effective communication between those representing them at the discussions and the community members themselves. Despite this, they assured the government of their support for the project ⁴.

Overall, the Abia State Government's community engagement efforts demonstrate their commitment to transparency and inclusivity in the implementation of the Abia airport project.
