Fresh Details Emerge On Why Police Sealed Emir Sanusi’s Palace

Fresh details have emerged regarding the sealing of the entrance to the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, by security operatives on Friday.
The move was reportedly aimed at averting a potential breakdown of law and order in Bichi town, where the Emir was scheduled to install a district head.
Although the Nigeria Police Force has yet to officially comment on the matter, sources indicate that the action was prompted by intelligence suggesting plans by residents of Bichi to disrupt the installation.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity with Nigerian Tribune, said, “Residents of Bichi town were allegedly planning to prevent the installation from taking place. Security operatives acted swiftly to maintain peace and order.”
The move also reportedly discouraged eminent personalities from visiting Bichi for the event.
The installation of a district head in Bichi has sparked discontent among locals, who perceive the move as a demotion of their town’s status.
Some residents argue that while other towns affected by the dissolution of the five Emirate Councils established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje now have second-class emirs, Bichi was excluded and relegated to being ruled by a district head.
Some stakeholders have described the police action as necessary to prevent what could have escalated into a major crisis.
As of 7 a.m. on Friday, heavily armed police officers had sealed the Kofar Kudu entrance to the Emir’s palace, effectively restricting movement.
The development underscores the ongoing tensions in Kano’s traditional leadership following the dissolution of the five Emirate Councils by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The reinstatement of Emir Sanusi II and the restructuring of traditional hierarchies have created divisions within the Emirate.
