Davido, the popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer, has claimed that there's a plot to cancel his highly anticipated December concert in Lagos, Nigeria

This comes after his comments about Nigeria's current economy sparked controversy.

 

During an appearance on the American podcast, Big Homies House, Davido advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the nation's economy as being in "shambles" .

His comments triggered a wave of criticism from Nigerians, with prominent figures like Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri accusing him of damaging Nigeria's global reputation.

Davido defended himself, saying that entertainers like him are the country's "real ambassadors" ¹. He also expressed concerns that his show might be cancelled due to his comments, saying "Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria" .

The controversy highlights the delicate balance between truth-telling and national branding in the face of economic challenges. While some see Davido's comments as a necessary wake-up call, others believe that they were ill-timed and irresponsible .
