The Presidency has given an update on the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State.

According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, the second 150,000 barrels per day plant will soon become operational as work is currently ongoing ¹.

Onanuga also shared that the 60,000 barrels per day refinery is currently functioning at 70% installed capacity, with plans to increase production shortly. He advised Nigerians to ignore negative talks about the refinery, stating that it receives regular crude supplies and produces petroleum products, including kerosene, low-pour fuel oil, LPG, diesel, and gasoline.

The refinery's recent overhaul has transformed it into a modern facility, with upgraded and replaced parts, including new pipelines. Onanuga commended NNPC Limited and the refinery team for reviving the facility, which was on the verge of becoming a museum piece ¹.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, also stated that the new refinery will come on stream by mid-2025 ¹.
