Abia to equip 1,500 youths with digital skills

The Abia State Government has taken a significant step towards empowering its youths by launching a digital skills training program in Isialangwa North and Isialangwa South Local Government Areas. This initiative aims to equip 1,500 young people with essential digital skills, enhancing their career readiness, education, and everyday life. The program is designed to create opportunities for Abia youths to succeed and contribute meaningfully to the state's development.

The training, which has already commenced in Aba for participants from Abia South, will be extended to Abia North shortly. It's a three-month program that will cover various areas of digital skills, including those that can help solve local problems in Abia State. The Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, emphasized the importance of digital skills in the 21st century, highlighting their role in career readiness, education, social connection, critical thinking, and innovation.

The program is a result of the state government's partnership with #LearnFactory, using the ICT hub provided by Senator Darlington Nwokocha. This collaboration demonstrates the commitment of well-meaning Abians to building a new Abia. The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. David Kalu, encouraged participants to challenge themselves and strive for excellence, ensuring they make the most of this opportunity.

Similar initiatives have been launched in other parts of Nigeria, such as Ebonyi State, where the government has flagged off a free digital skills training program for 5,000 youths ¹. In Abia State, the Umuahia North Local Government Area has also partnered with GetBundi Education Technology to educate 1,000 youths with various digital skill sets ². These programs underscore the growing recognition of digital skills as essential for the future of Nigerian youths.
